The DWP have announced that the one-off, £150 cost of living payment will be paid to a range of disability benefit claimants from 20 September, with the “vast majority” getting paid by the beginning of October.

The £150 is being paid on top of other cost of living payments totalling £650, £400 for all households to help with energy bills, and an extra £150 for properties in Council Tax bands A-D in England.

Over eight million eligible households in receipt of one of a range of means-tested benefit received the first of two automatic cost of living payments of £326 from 14 July. The second means-tested payment of £324 will be issued later this year.

Claimants likely to be eligible for the £150 payment are those in receipt of:

  • Disability Living Allowance,
  • Personal Independence Payment,
  • Attendance Allowance,
  • Adult Disability Payment (Scotland),
  • Child Disability Payment (Scotland),
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment,
  • Constant Attendance Allowance,
  • War Pension Mobility Supplement.

Those who had confirmed payment of their disability benefit for 25 May are expected to be paid shortly after the payment window opens.

For those awaiting confirmation of their disability benefits on 25 May, or who are waiting to be assessed for eligibility to receive disability benefits, the process may take longer but payments will still be automatic.

Full details of eligibility for the £150 cost of living payment are on the .gov.uk website.

@Julie 150 cost of living is per claimant.

@Julie Hello julie..It is per person not per household so if there is anybody on a qualifying benefit and qualifying disabilities to entitle to them to it they will receive it per benefit claim not per household

@Julie The Disability Cost of Living Payment, according to the gov info, looks like it is per claimant, not per household.  The other benefits are per household.

Does anyone know what age this starts from? Daughter is 16, living at home and currently getting DLA (in process of moving over to PIP). Would she be entitled to it?

@Craig I can see no age limit in the Government guidelines.  If you do not receive it then tell the DWP.

There seems to be some confusion about the £150 disability payment.  This is completely separate from the warm home discount.  All disabled people who receive one of the qualifying benefits will receive the £150 disability payment from the DWP.  The warm home discount is based on means tested benefits and has to be applied for separately.  The winter fuel payment is different and paid to pensioner households.  It is not means tested, nor does it depend on disabilities.

I'm expecting the elec bill to be no more than £60 pounds a month?  for a single person....If it goes over £80 pounds a month , it will be hard to manage.  Do  people expect it togo over £100 pounds a month?

    That would be v bad!

@Marianne I agree, these are the people that need more money. And all they get is a one off payment of 150.00. It's a joke. But if you are on Universal Credit you get two payments Ina year. Where is the justice in that.

@Jason William Lee Labour have said nothing about any support for people with disabilities and it looks certain that will be just as bad as the torlie party and carry on the same demeaning  system  that punishes people for being sick/disabled.

    Pensioner Cost of Living Payment
If you’re entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2022 to 2023, you will get an extra £300 for your household paid with your normal payment from November 2022. This is in addition to any Cost of Living Payment you get with your benefit or tax credits.

The full amount of Winter Fuel Payment you will get for winter 2022 to 2023 depends on your circumstances.

Looks like even me is wrong.
you no longer have to apply directly to take part in the scheme and you'll automatically qualify if you are receiving certain benefits.
Your energy supplier will automatically confirm your eligibility as long as you were receiving any of the qualifying benefits on or before Sunday August 21.
You will get a additional £150 payment top up then with the previous £150 cost of living.

@Colin My energy supplier octopus has told me that the £150 is replacing the warm home discount and that I will get that payment this year but certain benefits have removed from the qualifying status of warm home discount for next year

      @Colin
      Dear Colin,
Thank you.  Thought my age was getting the better of me.  It really is difficult to navigate and understand who is getting what and how much and when.
I do agee with you though, sure it's all done to brow beat and confuse us and keep us benefit claimants in line.  They will be havng us "tugging our forelocks" next!!

Some on ESA and PiP had fill online forms to get it some over the last years like those on guarantee credit elements of pension credit got it automatically it was called Government warm home discount. This year they gave it new name Cost of living payment just to muddle and confuse everyone up. Just one payment then £150 is due nothing else.

@Colin Colin that is not correct, if you are on receipt of a disability benefit you get £150, if you are on other benefits you can get the Warm home discount, some will get both payments

Colin, are you sure it's the same?  I have been receiving something now for a few years.  I did not have to apply for it.  I just get it automatically. I am in receipt of the guaranteed credit element of pension credit.

It's paid directly into my electricity account.
Is this new Cost of Living payment, on top, or instead of?
    I don't understand.

As I said this benefit is really Government Home warm discount. They have switch the name over to confuse people. This payment was usually added to your Electricity around Christmas time each year for those who were entitled to it. Been going on since 2011 tho folk to this day didn't even know about it still. The government has extended the scheme through to March 2026 but it's called Cost of living for now.

@Coln Government Warm Home Discount is a separate grant, which you have to apply for and is means tested.
