Hi everyone,

My partner and I were both in the ESA support group. Our claim was then joined with him being lead claimant in 2019. We just started the migration process and after confirming my identity today I received 3 messages. One telling me I need a fit note because I haven't had a WCA. Another telling me I have to go to the job centre and accept new conditions and a third telling me I need to update my work profile. I am absolutely terrified. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Are they going to make me look for work? I have multiple MH issues as well as physical health issues. I'm so scared. And I don't know how to go about the self certifying the fit note.

Hi acaitens

How long ago did you have a DWP medical? Has your partner had a DWP medical recently? Were you working prior to claiming ESA? Were you awarded Contributions Based ESA?

My last medical would have been 2019 before our claim was joined and my partner 2020. It was income related ESA i was on and I had never worked and he had been wrongly put on contributions based ESA many years ago before our claim was joined (he never worked) but it was changed to income related by the time our claim joined.

Hi I had income related ESA was in the support group and no work history. Last medical prior to claims being joined in 2019. Partner last medical in 2020. He was wrongly receiving contributions based ESA for a few years (no work history) and it was fixed and he was put on income related ESA before our claims joined in 2019. My partner hasn't received any notes like mine on his UC account. He doesn't need to agree to new terms or see anyone face to face.

Can I also ask do I need to instantly provide a fit note. I don't know how to self certify or even what that is and I didn't see the message till after GP had closed Friday.

Hi Blissfulblues

You need to send a Journal message choosing the option A Payment. In the Journal message I would write -
I was given ESA Support Group status following a WCA in 2019. I was a single claimant then and received National Insurance Credits. Subsequently when I became a partner in a couple ESA claim, I continued to receive National Insurance Credits. As there was no gap in my eligibility to receive National Insurance Credits due to an ESA claim my Support Group status is protected. The relevant legislation is the The Social Security ( Credits ) Regulations .

Let me know how you get on.

I have just replied with what message to send in order to keep your Support Group status and be moved automatically to UC LCWRA.
