The Telegraph reports significant problems at the Revenue that could potentially seriously impair the implementation and operation of Universal Credit (UC).
The report refers to a leaked document that reveals the reform of the tax system has “critical” weaknesses that need “immediate attention”. A review of the progress being made at the Revenue assessed the changes as being at significant risk of failure.
Stephen Barclay, MP and member of the public accounts committee, stated the warnings must be taken seriously. Ministers are adamant that the introduction of UC will go ahead as planned.
A spokesperson for the Revenue confirmed preparations for the pilot are “going well” and will begin this month.
