Award rates for disability living allowance (DLA) to personal independence payment (PIP) reassessments have fallen to their lowest level almost since the transfer of DLA claimants began.
DLA to PIP award rates
In January 2017, 72% of DLA to PIP claimants received an award, rising to a high of 75% in March 2017.
However, the award rates have now been falling for the last four months for which figures are available.
In July 2017, the award rate for DLA to PIP reassessments had fallen to 68%.
Only in January and February 2014, when reassessments first began were rates lower, at 8% and 35% respectively.
New claims award rates
PIP award rates for new claims, on the other hand, have increased over the course of the year.
In January 2017 38% of new PIP claims resulted in an award.
In July 2017 43% of new PIP claims resulted in an award.
This is still considerably lower than the highs of 62% and 61% recorded in March to May 2014.
Monthly award rates for PIP new claims vary very considerably, raising even greater concerns about the reliability of the assessments. Even this year they have varied between a low of 32% and a high of 46%.
These figures exclude claims made under the special rules for terminally ill people.
