Hi everyone, does anybody know if War Disability Pensions are going to be affected in the benefit review?
Hi,
As far as I am aware not directly at this stage other than the annual rise will change to CPI instead of RPI (I have submitted a paper regarding this particularly with regard to the AFCS scheme).
If I do hear of anything changing I will of course post it.

in the past war pensioners were sometimes advised to claim dwp dla mobility and not the one via war pension
the thought at the time was dla mobility even though less than war mobility could be awarded "for life" war mobility often only awarded in five years blocks
so there are many on dla mobility who will now be in the same boat as war mobility
at the time the advice to go for dla mobility was the right choice

The problem (as often) with the press is only half a story.
The situation being that in order to qualify for WPMS, since I think about 1982, one must first qualify for a War Pension of at least 40%, and at least 40% must be mobility related so for example an award of 30% mobility related and 10% other related (for example PTSD) would not qualify for WPMS. Hence the advice to War Pensioners, particularly those without a 40% mobility award, was/is to claim DLA Mobility as they are/were ineligible to claim WPMS.
As the largest numbers (and percentage wise) of War Pensioners are at the 20% and 30% levels, obviously more would claim DLA tham WPMS.
