Figures given by employment minister Chris Grayling in a written parliamentary answer show that employment and support allowance (ESA) claimants are very much less likely to be subject to a sanction than those on jobseeker’s allowance (JSA).
In April 2011 for example, 60,620 JSA claimants were sanctioned. This compares with 610 claimants in the Work-Related Activity Group of ESA who had a sanction imposed for the same period.
