The Government’s Welfare Reform plans are at risk according to a report from a cross party Parliamentary Watchdog, the Public Accounts Committee.

Successful operation of the new Universal Credit depends on the effective implementation of a new IT system whereby the DWP and HMRC will exchange real time data. However according to the Committee’s experience such complex projects are rarely delivered on time and on budget and as such could put the DWP’s ability to deliver both the new benefit and the proposed savings at risk.

Also of concern is the number of people who have access to the digital infrastructure required.
