Reassessment activity for existing disability living allowance recipients will start in October 2013 and we intend that everyone will have been contacted by March 2016. Disability living allowance recipients will be asked if they want to claim personal independence payment and will be assessed for that new benefit where they do. By the time reassessment activity has finished we expect the working age caseload (16 to 64) for personal independence payment to be 500,000 lower than it would have been had we not carried out these reforms. The estimated reduction in caseload cannot be broken down into smaller geographic areas. We have not yet set the rates at which PIP will be paid, so it is not yet possible to estimate how much people may lose or gain as a result of the introduction of personal independence payment
