Atos Origin, who run Medical Services for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), have won a contract worth £220 million to provide the IT infrastructure for the Department for Constitutional affairs, which includes Her Majesty's Court Services and Tribunal Services.
This means that the same company which carries out disability and incapacity medicals for the DWP will now also run the computer systems for the body which hears appeals against decisions based on those same medicals.
Xavier Flinois, CEO (UK) at Atos Origin, said:
"We are delighted to have been awarded the IT infrastructure services contract . . . This contract plays to our strength in managing large-scale and complex IT programmes in frontline government departments."
Claimants who have been on the receiving end of Mr Flinois' company's sometimes bizarre computerised incapacity for work medical reports, however, might not entirely agree about where Atos' strengths lie.
