Oldham Law Centre has closed as a result of loss of funding from the local authority. After almost 25 years of funding the Law Centre, the Council decided to cut £​120,000 from the Law Centre and to fund Citizens Advice instead to set up local advice sessions.

Staff had been working without pay since November. Cheques issued to them last week by the liquidators bounced and staff will not now be paid despite needing more time to close their cases and make appropriate referrals to other agencies.

In a statement posted on Oldham Law Centre’​s Facebook page, the supervising solicitor explains that he still has “​professional duties to clients with regard to closing or transferring their cases. With over 200 open files left, this could take weeks...”​
