Harehills and Chapeltown Law Centre in Leeds has taken the difficult decision to close its services on 7 November 2013.{jcomments on}
Based on Roundhay Road, the Law Centre has provided a free expert legal advice service to Leeds residents for over thirty years. Over the years the Law Centre offered specialist legal advice and representation in debt, employment, family, housing, immigration, mental health and welfare benefits. It provided a comprehensive service for people in Leeds and collaborated with local firms, charities and other Law Centres nearby to extend its services to more clients and communities.
A Law Centre spokesperson said:
“Cuts to public services have made it difficult for our skilled and dedicated team to continue operating. We are sad and disappointed that the closure leaves people on low or no income in Leeds without an important specialist and local support service.”
Julie Bishop, Director of the Law Centres Network, said:
“Leeds Law Centre has been a longstanding resource for disadvantaged people in Leeds, offering them free and independent legal advice when it was needed most. Its closure is a sad loss to the Law Centres movement and to the people of Leeds.”
