The DWP has published updated draft assessment regulations for personal independence payment, the benefit that is intended to replace disability living allowance beginning in April 2013.
The latest draft includes the points that will apply to each activity. However, there is still no indication of how many points a claimant would need to score in order to get either level of the daily living or mobility component.
There have been a number of changes to the criteria, including references being made to supervision from another person, which was absent from the initial criteria. In addition, the ‘Planning and buying food and drink’ activity has been replaced with ‘Making financial decisions’ and ‘Communicating with others’ has been replaced with two activities: ‘Communicating’ and ‘Engaging socially’.
We’ll be updating our guide to the draft assessment criteria in the very near future. Meanwhile, you can download the 17 page draft regulations and download the 72 page explanatory notes.
