The DWP say that the £10 Christmas bonus should normally be paid in the first full week in December, but we are now well into the second full week in December and we are still hearing from people who haven’t had theirs yet.

Have you had yours?  Let us know in the comments below.

How the Christmas bonus shows on your statement

The payment will normally show up as a single £10 payment with the reference ‘DWP XB’

It was originally introduced in 1972 and it was a payment of £10 way back then as well.

According to the Bank of England’s inflation calculator, if the Christmas bonus had kept pace with inflation it would now be worth £108.63.

Who is eligible

You must also get at least one of the following benefits in the ‘qualifying week’ - this is normally the first full week of December:

  • Adult Disability Payment
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Child Disability Payment
  • Constant Attendance Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance (once the main phase of the benefit is entered after the first 13 weeks of claim)
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Incapacity Benefit at the long-term rate
  • Industrial Death Benefit (for widows or widowers)
  • Mobility Supplement
  • Pension Credit - the guarantee element
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • State Pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)
  • Severe Disablement Allowance (transitionally protected)
  • Unemployability Supplement or Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • War Disablement Pension at State Pension age
  • War Widow’s Pension
  • Widowed Mother’s Allowance
  • Widowed Parent’s Allowance
  • Widow’s Pension

What to do if you haven’t got your Christmas bonus

The DWP say you should contact the Jobcentre Plus office that deals with your benefits or the Pension service.  Unfortunately there does not seem to be an online form you can use to report non-payment.

What's happening with the 2022 second cost of living payment of £324. Unable to report it missing on Gov.UK site, they advise you to call qualifying benefit, ie Pension credit, when you do call the line you get put through to is permanently dead. As anyone received this payment?

I had not received my £10 since 2018. I had written repeatedly, both to PIP and ESA offices and DWP' complaints'. Decided to invest a day on the phone again just before Christmas - this time I got a call back next day from a decision maker. My letters had been scanned and were on the system but nothing had been actioned. Much discussion and we established that because I have had underlying title to Carers Allowance for my Mother since 2017, the CA takes precedence- even though I receive no actual payment of CA. CA are supposed to do an annual scan and notify the paying benefit office of those who need to be paid the Xmas bonus. The DM I was speaking to said this was a pretty common reason for people not to have been paid. He arranged for the back payment and this years to all be paid.  It will be interesting to see what happens Dec 23.  I should add that I myself worked for the DWP for 20 years and at no time would the appalling standards that now exist have been tolerated when I was there!  The old maxim of "Pay the right money, to the right person at the right time' was enforced back then.

I received my £10 Xmas bonus on Tuesday 13th December,.  but not as a separate payment.
My State Pension due on that day was £10 more than normal weeks.  My bank statement showed my NI number then DWP SP.

If one of you has pip and the other carers allowance are you meant to receive the bonus separately or just one payment of 10 pounds between
    you?

No-one understands that although they extended my allowance, l wait every day with ever increasing sickening feeling for that letter to arrive. I just wish l could tell them to stuff it...

Not had mine either. My claim was extended until December for PIP. The extention for 6 months. They've had my renewal claim since February 2022. My car is due for return. I can no longer cope with it all. I've written to my MP!
