The DWP say that the £10 Christmas bonus should normally be paid in the first full week in December, but we are now well into the second full week in December and we are still hearing from people who haven’t had theirs yet.

Have you had yours?  Let us know in the comments below.

How the Christmas bonus shows on your statement

The payment will normally show up as a single £10 payment with the reference ‘DWP XB’

It was originally introduced in 1972 and it was a payment of £10 way back then as well.

According to the Bank of England’s inflation calculator, if the Christmas bonus had kept pace with inflation it would now be worth £108.63.

Who is eligible

You must also get at least one of the following benefits in the ‘qualifying week’ - this is normally the first full week of December:

  • Adult Disability Payment
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Child Disability Payment
  • Constant Attendance Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance (once the main phase of the benefit is entered after the first 13 weeks of claim)
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Incapacity Benefit at the long-term rate
  • Industrial Death Benefit (for widows or widowers)
  • Mobility Supplement
  • Pension Credit - the guarantee element
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • State Pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)
  • Severe Disablement Allowance (transitionally protected)
  • Unemployability Supplement or Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • War Disablement Pension at State Pension age
  • War Widow’s Pension
  • Widowed Mother’s Allowance
  • Widowed Parent’s Allowance
  • Widow’s Pension

What to do if you haven’t got your Christmas bonus

The DWP say you should contact the Jobcentre Plus office that deals with your benefits or the Pension service.  Unfortunately there does not seem to be an online form you can use to report non-payment.

Called the pension service re: £10 bonus and they checked it for me.
If you get your pension paid monthly (Wife's) the £10 will show as a separate payment.
If your pension is paid weekly (Mine) the £10 will show on one of the weekly payments.
That's why I never spotted it!!
Don't grow old it's not good for you.................................lol
Christmas in 48 weeks yippee another £10!
Just think what you could do with £10 ....half a turkey leg perhaps?

Mine has been paid but not my wife's. I usually end up having to chase it every year for one or both of us. If yours hasn't been paid, either phone them (but may take ages to get through) or write to them (may take time to get a reply, but in my experience they do eventually pay it). Good luck!

Not had the Xmas bonus OR the Cold Weather Payment - trying to get through to the DWP is a nightmare, and probably best avoided. Even when you do get through, there's a VERY HIGH chance that your call will be terminated - how very convenient.

Just chased up mine via the UC work diary. Told I didn't qualify for it as UC is not an applicable benefit. Informed them I also get PIP and this is their reply today.

UC dont issue the £10 bonus. If you havent had the one from PIP then you would need to contact them directly

    Will try PIP next.

      @Fern UPDATE -

I spoke to a lovely lady at DWP and she was so helpful. Can't explain why I hadn't got 2022's bonus so told me she would get that sorted. A few days later, I had 2 letters - one for 2022 confirming when I would get the payment and also one for 2021, which I hadn't even realised that it hadn't been paid! She was as baffled as me, as she wondered if I had ever had a sanction but my record is clear on that.

My wife is in receipt of PIP and  I get State Pension, and we both received our 10 quid bonus in good time. However, I had to chase my Winter Fuel Payment and additional cost of living payment because November and December came and went without any sign of the money. It wasn't possible to speak to the WFP helpline till January because prior to that the only option was to listen to a series of options and a recorded message, following which the call was automatically ended. I rang at the beginning of January, spoke to a real person and was told there was a "glitch" which had resulted in my being listed as not qualifying for WFP, but that the mistake would be escalated and rectified. I received the payment last Friday 13th. Anyone who hasn't yet had WFP and believes that they qualify, ring the number on the government website because in my case, the staff were actually very helpful.

Anyone who hasn’t received their Christmas Bonus you will need to phone your benefit/benefits provider.
I was told that there is guidance as to who should pay it, for example if you receive ESA and PIP it is ESA who should pay it as there is a list of ranking benefits. I have never received it and after two phone calls, with my query being logged, I finally received a phone call back yesterday and will receive £40 on Friday and the outstanding earlier years will be looked at once the relevant documents have been received as only so many years worth of information is held on the system. If you just wait for it to arrive you may be disappointed, it’s worth a couple of phone calls.
