The DWP say that the £10 Christmas bonus should normally be paid in the first full week in December, but we are now well into the second full week in December and we are still hearing from people who haven’t had theirs yet.

Have you had yours?  Let us know in the comments below.

How the Christmas bonus shows on your statement

The payment will normally show up as a single £10 payment with the reference ‘DWP XB’

It was originally introduced in 1972 and it was a payment of £10 way back then as well.

According to the Bank of England’s inflation calculator, if the Christmas bonus had kept pace with inflation it would now be worth £108.63.

Who is eligible

You must also get at least one of the following benefits in the ‘qualifying week’ - this is normally the first full week of December:

  • Adult Disability Payment
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Child Disability Payment
  • Constant Attendance Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance (once the main phase of the benefit is entered after the first 13 weeks of claim)
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Incapacity Benefit at the long-term rate
  • Industrial Death Benefit (for widows or widowers)
  • Mobility Supplement
  • Pension Credit - the guarantee element
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • State Pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)
  • Severe Disablement Allowance (transitionally protected)
  • Unemployability Supplement or Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • War Disablement Pension at State Pension age
  • War Widow’s Pension
  • Widowed Mother’s Allowance
  • Widowed Parent’s Allowance
  • Widow’s Pension

What to do if you haven’t got your Christmas bonus

The DWP say you should contact the Jobcentre Plus office that deals with your benefits or the Pension service.  Unfortunately there does not seem to be an online form you can use to report non-payment.

I forgot to say in my post yesterday that my £10 two weeks ago was marked as "DWP PIP £10" in my online banking.  I also received the cold weather payment of £25 yesterday.  In my banking app it shows as "[NINO] ESA CWP £25." (NINO is your National insurance number.

I'm still waiting for the cold weather £25 and the £10 Christmas. I receive pip, child tax, esa.
My daughter who gets carers to look after me got the £10 in her carers money and not sure if she is entitled to the 25 as she lives with me.

Christmas bonus was lumped together with my ESA second week in December.  Please check your bank statements and amount paid as DWP have not necessarily put the money into your account with the letters XB (Christmas Bonus).

I did not realise that I had not recieved mine until today, when I read this article. I have in the past recieved it in my income related ESA. I do not get my December PIP until Friday 23rd so I do not know if I have to wait until then to make enqiries

I haven't received the £10 Christmas bonus that I have had other years as I am on DLA. Usually it has been paid in early December and here we are 3 days away from Christmas.  Wonder if the Government or DWP are holding back because of the living and fuel allowances?  Although my husband is a pensioner and had his earlier in December.

If you think you haven't received your bonus, check your benefit payments for this month. One of them might have £10 extra on top.

Thought I didn't get mine, then realised my last ESA payment was higher by a tenner. Hope this helps

@Cornelia If you get ESA or PIP, then you're entitled to it. Don't know if other benefits qualify. If they haven't paid it, you'll have to write to them. I've had to do that every year for many years - they do eventually pay up.

Mine was paid last week by the PIP Dept, I didn't realise what the £10 was for until reading this post. Normally I get a letter stating they will pay it, but if they have sent one it could be delayed by the posties striking.

I did receive a letter from HMG stating they will not be paying me a £150 warm home discount this year because my flat (Housing Association) doesn't have an up to date Energy Performance certificate :(
