Good news on the fight to defend benefits for people with sensory impairments. The Government has accepted the recommendations of the Harrington Review which urged improvements to sensory descriptors used in the notorious Work Capability Assessment, used to judge who is eligible for disability support and benefits to help in finding work.

This is great news for the organisations and individuals who presented evidence to the review particularly those individuals who demonstrated that the descriptors on sensory impairment were so badly drafted that they were found incorrectly fit for work.

We are now asking for the formation of a working group to develop unambiguous and fair descriptors in consultation with blind and partially sighted people.
