Glasgow’s Citizens Advice Bureaux have won a temporary reprieve after the city council gave in to pressure not to axe their funding.
Earlier this week we reported that five of the city’s bureaux faced closure and other legal advice agencies were facing major funding cuts because they had failed to score enough points to secure grants from the city’s community fund
However, the local authority have now announced that they have set up a £4 million ‘transition fund’ to support advice sector agencies and other groups.
But this still leaves the sector with no long-term funding and talks are now underway to try to identify new sources of income.
So, at the moment, this is a temporary reprieve and the local authority clearly intend that, one way or another, they are going to avoid being responsible for funding advice in the future.
