Average waiting times for ESA and DLA Appeal Tribunals have increased according to figures given in a parliamentary answer from the Ministry of Justice on Monday 15th November.

The revised figures (as at September 2011) are below together with the figures previously given for August 2011.

ESA Appeals:
Aug 2011 - 23 weeks
Sept 2011 - 24.2 weeks.

DLA Appeals:
Aug 2011 - 25.5 weeks
Sept 2011 - 28.2 weeks

The above figures represent the average times taken from once the paperwork is received from the DWP until the actual 1st Tier Tribunal. These figures include cases that were decided by a tribunal hearing and those that were disposed of by other means (such as being withdrawn, superseded or struck out).

Bearing in mind the time taken from receipt of the GL24 to the DWP sending the paperwork to HMC&​TS needs adding on, the latest figures for which (as at Aug 2011) are 32 days for a DLA appeal and 35 days for an ESA appeal. These being working days.

Hence the revised average waiting time totals from GL24being received at the DWP to 1st Tier Tribunals are now:

ESA: 31.2 weeks (Aug 2011: 30 weeks)

DLA 34.4 weeks (Aug 2011: 31.7 weeks)
