Citizens Advice has issued redundancy notices to 900 debt workers following the scrapping of the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF).

The axing of the FIF was announced on 19 January in a written parliamentary answer, as we reported earlier this week.  (See:  Advice agencies face even more cuts).

As the fund is due to close at the end of March, advice agencies have been left with no choice but to issue redundancy notices now, before any information has been made available about other possible sources of government funding.  The redundancies would represent a cut of over 10% in paid bureau staff.

Meanwhile, Birmingham CAB is set to close on February 11th unless it can raise £50,000 a month following funding cuts by Birmingham City Council which are also likely to lead to the closure of Birmingham Tribunal Unit and a dozen other advice agencies in the city.
