Enhanced PIP mobilty, standard daily living . . . all due to your fantastic guides
“Hi you wonderful people. I've just received the results of my recent PIP assessment and have been awarded Standard rate in the Daily Living Component and enhanced rate for the mobility component. This was all due to your fantastic guides. Without them I don't think I would have received anything. My car is my lifeline to the outside world as we are a little isolated around here… I am also currently in receipts of ESA (support group)..Many thanks”
Dear Reader,
Confronted with Iain Duncan Smith and Boris Johnson in the Leave camp and David Cameron and George Osborne on the Stay side, you may find yourself hating the thought of taking any part in the EU referendum.
But, setting possibly odious personalities aside, which result do you believe is going to be in the best interests of claimants?
Should we stay or should we go now?
If we leave the EU is it likely that the Tory party will be able to make life even harder for claimants and carers?
Will workers’ rights be even more comprehensively eroded, so that if you are sick or disabled there will be even less protection against discrimination in the workplace?
The European Court of Human Rights is not part of the EU, but once out of the EU it is possible that the Tories would feel better able to try to limit the ECHR’s power to interfere in UK domestic matters, including the rights of sick and disabled people. Would that make any difference to your life?
Would the ability to limit the free movement of workers, by leaving the EU, mean that there would be more jobs available for UK citizens, so employers would be more likely to consider employing sick and disabled applicants?
We all know that payment of benefits to claimants from outside the UK makes the right wing press foam with rage and possibly increases the level of prejudice against all benefits claimants. Would there be less hatred towards sick and disabled people if we left the EU and the press had fewer opportunities to run anti-claimant stories?
And - getting back to personalities – if the Leave campaign does win, will that make Iain Duncan Smith even more powerful and even more free to indulge his cruellest instincts towards claimants?
On the other hand, if the Stay campaign succeeds, will that mean George Osborne is most likely to take over from Cameron and is he to be feared even more than IDS?
What will you do?
After the unexpected awfulness of the last election result, it would be no surprise if claimants were increasingly reluctant to vote this time around. But is the decision on 23 June too important for the future of sick and disabled claimants to leave it to other people to decide for you?.
So, will you vote and, if so, which way will you go – Stay or Leave?

Claimant counts
In other news, ESA claimant numbers are down whilst ESA sanctions have increased.
Contrary to DWP hopes, however, combined DLA and PIP claimant numbers are increasing – no wonder the government are planning on changing the rules on aids and adaptations in order to try to slash successful claims.
Meanwhile, universal credit continues to perform as badly as we have come to expect. At current rates it will take another 32 years to be fully rolled out.
Good luck,
Steve Donnison
PIP success
“At last the brown envelope dropped through the letter box, my autistic daughter was awarded enhanced daily living (previously on middle rate of D.L.A.) and the standard rate for mobility, I just couldn't believe it…Thank you everybody at Benefits and Work what would we do without you and the forum. The guides are such a help…Good luck to everybody still waiting for the results of their P.I.P.”

BENEFITS NEWS
Should the EU referendum matter to claimants?
Confronted with Iain Duncan Smith and Boris Johnson in the Leave camp and David Cameron and George Osborne on the Stay side, many claimants may find themselves hating the thought of taking any part in the EU referendum.
32 years for full roll-out of universal credit at current speed
The number of universal credit (UC) claims in payment is still below 200,000 at a time when it should be in the millions, according to the latest figures released by the DWP.
ESA/IB claimant numbers fall but PIP/DLA rise
The number of claimants receiving employment and support allowance (ESA) or incapacity benefit (IB) has fallen again, statistics released by the DWP this week reveal. However, the combined total of disability living allowance (DLA) and personal independence payment (PIP) claimants is at an all-time high.
ESA sanctions on the rise again
The number of employment and support allowance (ESA) sanctions increased by almost a third in the last two months for which figures are available, statistics published by the DWP today show.

DLA to PIP until March 2022
“Just want to take this opportunity to thank all at B &W for all the help and information I received in applying for PIP. After 6 weeks of waiting for a decision after my f2f assessment I received the letter this morning and am pleased to say that I was awarded enhanced Mobility and standard Care..the best news is that it is awarded until March 2022, I know they can review you earlier but at least the pressure is off for now. Once again thank you to all the Mods for your help…”
DLA to PIP
“I have just come through the most distressing change from DLA TO PIP…Yesterday the brown envelope came through, and I couldn't open it. I left it until the afternoon, having worked myself up so much my mind shut down and I slept. I opened it …and I have been awarded enhanced for both mobility and the other one at enhanced…Thank you so much for all that you do. It helps me and my family understand what I'm entitled too. People pay the subscription, it really is amazing.”

DLA to PIP conversion success
“Thanks to the very good Advice, Information and Help contained on this site My wife Joyce has now Completed the Conversion from DLA (indefinite) to PIP…This is until Jan 2021.”
ESA Reconsideration success
“Folks, I just wanted to let you know that I have had my ESA claim reconsidered and been placed back into the Support Group…I found the guides to be invaluable and, with their help, was able to compile a lengthy report to submit for appeal/reconsideration. As I was unsure of which guide was applicable to my circumstances, I emailed Benefits and Work and promptly received direct instruction from Steve. Thank you all so much for the work and research you all do. I am not sure my benefit would have been re-instated without it.”
ESA decision – thank you
“I just wanted to say thank you for all your help. Rang Esa today to find out where to send my fit note, to be told I no longer need to send them in as a decision had been made. They have put me in the work related activity group. So thank you, for the help and advice.”

DLA change in circumstances success

PIP award
“Hi just to say thanks to this great informative website! My sister was awarded enhanced rate of PIP until Jan. 2018 (no mobility) for mental health issues. Filling out the forms and getting lots of medical info was stressful and hard…What this government is making disabled people go through is dreadful. If I had not been able to help her she would have had nothing. There is no help out there for those without family or friends. Many thanks again.”
ESA award
“I was awarded Esa wra group, many thanks for your advice.”
Awarded PIP after tribunal
“I have just been awarded pip after a tribunal. I had a home visit assessment and was taken off my previously awarded dla. The assessor completely misrepresented everything I told her and I was declined for a pip award. I decided to appeal and did so on paper as I find it extremely stressful to go out. After 5 months and lots of correspondence my letter arrived today and my appeal was upheld.
Thanks to this site for all the useful information”
