Hi

My husband has had a bad accident at work 16 weeks ago and this has affected his right arm (can't use it) his right knee that was ready for replacement and now can't be done until shoulder op and this has a recovery time of about 9 months. His hip has also been affected. This seriously impedes his mobility because of pain.He is unable to shower, dress apply creams and lotions for severe eczema, cut up food, shave etc.
I have filled in the forms for D.L.A and he has just been told that he has been awarded industrial injuries allowance at 50%. Should I wait for the paperwork for this to include in his claim and do you think that it will help. He was assessed by Atos for the Industrial injuries.

If you have time to wait for the report, then it would be worth doing so, if only to see whether the contents can be of assistance.

However, be aware that DLA applications usually have to be returned within a specific timescale, especially if you have backdated your claim.

Hi,

Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) is not a benefit on which we can offer advice.

However, see Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

As for claiming DLA, the name of the disability/illness is secondary, what is paramount are any care or mobility needs that is reasonably required.

There is nothing to stop your husband from submitting a DLA claim now. The information on his IIDB can always be submitted later.

See the guides in the 'members only' section on making a claim for DLA in DLA Resources

Good luck.

Pat
