Contributory esa was created by jasmine
Contributory esa is time limited for a year. What happens to everyone who claims this after this time period, espeically those who have a partner, who works and will be told you do not qualify for income related esa. What is the advice for them. Can you claim contributory again or is it one shot saloon?

On the assumption that you will not pass the ESA(IR) means test because of your partners earnings, you will not be able to re-apply for ESA(CB) unless you earn sufficient qualifying NI stamps, which basically means working for about two years.

I was going to query what you said, Gordon - but did a bit of digging first!

I hadn't realised DWP had changed the NI requirements to get contribution-based ESA or JSA. I've just found the Equality Impact Assessment made by DWP about changes brought in on 1st November 2010. Another piece of scary reading :ohmy:
