Frightening claimants with phone calls to discuss an assessment/appeal is part of the DWP's plan to be more customer friendly.
people might be frightened but thats not all the dwps fault some of it will be the state of the mind due to illness ... if done in the right way, and recorded if the people calling are well trained and have answers calls might help
now all we need are well trained helpful staff at the DWP

My phone just rang while I was reading this thread. My dentist called me in for a check-up.
yes there are many people far worse than the DWP who can call you

The government seems to be pretending they are meeting his request to make it more personal by making phone calls which terrify people.

I think this is something to do with the Harrington review saying the process was impersonal.
