I'm in a very similar situation- long term IB and long term permitted work of approx 3 hours a week with maximum earnings of £20. What do I do when I receive my ESA50 for migration? Do I mention on it that I do permitted work or not? Can I just assume that the decision maker will realise that I do it? Will it make going for a medical with ATOS 'easier' if they haven't got details of my permitted work written down in front of them?

Grateful for any advice as very worried
Thank you

Francis :(

Hi Francis

According to the DWP guidebooks HCPs are advised when a claimant is undertaking permitted work on the IB55 (file jacket) for IB medicals. There is no mention of this in the ESA handbook but I would be surprised if the HCP was not informed, so you may be asked about the nature of the work.

If permitted work is discussed at a medical assessment I would recommend that you consider in advance the likely assumptions that will be drawn (we all know how HCPs think) and explain in detail any difficulty or limitations you have in relation to the WCA descriptors.

Regards

Derek

What I would do Francis is phone up the free helpline you can find on the ESA web page of the gov site (sorry I can't find the link!) - you don't have to give your name or any details and you can ask them about whether you will need to give details of your permitted work again. I would imagine they would already have it on their system but you never know with the DWP do you?!
