aberdeen burnley 'support group' at 30 percent

In the news section it says that the IB to ESA transfer has begun and that provisional figures from Aberdeen and Burnley show that 30 per cent are allocated to the support group

Thats a high figurte considering that ATOS had a video for a whiled on their wenpage showing an ESA customer 'journey' and it stated that 5 per cent are expected to get into the support group

any observations ?

an area of scotland and the industrial north west both areas I would expect higher rates of support group when you get more people and a bigger sample it could still easily be only 5% in the support group

Well, at least it's a bit better than we thought it was going to be overall. But I would imagine that quite a lot of these cases would result from there being no doubt at all on the side of the DWP regarding eligability.

Terminally ill and people suffering from complete disablement etc.

I’ve just been reading that in the B&W news.
It also states that 39% were placed in the WRAG.
This makes no sense at all based on all the other data that shows very few getting in either group.
Were face to face assessments carried out on the Burnley claimants or was it just done on paper.
I'm now more confused than ever.

You need to bear in mind that the vast majority of people on IB are long-term sick or disabled. So the success rate is bound to be much higher for this group than it is from the general applicants for ESA, many of whom will have much less long-term or debilitating conditions

in additon, I forget the exact figure, but around 20-25% of ESA clamants drop out before they are assessed - because they get better, get a job or claim a different benefit. But virtually no IB claiamnts will drop out, so that makes a big difference to the stats as well.
