Change to ESA Claim was created by fibrofog
I called DWP today to get an update on my claim for mortgage assistance and was informed they were waiting on my new form as there has been a change of circumstance. Turns out that now I will move from contribution based ESA to income based I have to complete another form. Good job I phoned as no-one had informed me of this. Haven't done this before will it mean a new claim, do I have to complete all the medical information again and wait until this is assessed, followed by another medical? I was put in the work related group after a medical in October, I asked then for copies of the medical as I intended to appeal, I received these two weeks ago but the part detailing the points was missing! I called DWP and was told this part was sent out separately and should arrive soon!! So much for the 1 month limit for appealing I have waited 4 months and still don't have the information I need!!

Did they say why you are being moved from contribution to income based ESA?

No Derek, I have been claiming ESA since August 2010 I thought it was because six month was the limit for contribution based ESA.What reasons are there for moving for contribution to income based?

There is currently no limit as to the time that you can receive ESA(CB). Your eligibility is usually determined by your NI contributions during the previous two years.

I have to say that I have not previously seen someone switched from ESA(CB) to ESA(IR), so I think it is worth giving the DWP a call to find out why they are doing it, especially as there are financial implications.

Let us know how you get on.

I called DWP, the change is because I have applied for the interest payments for my mortgage, this cannot be paid with contribution based ESA only income based. The agent I spoke to advised there will be no change to my benefits. What financial implications are there?

ESA(IR) is means tested and takes into account all income including a partners. It may well be that none of these affect you, but for a lot ESA(CB) recipients this would be a problem.
