Timing for SDA migration was created by carruthers
Last thing I heard the DWP are proposing to do the migration for SDA claimants last. Is that still the case - or perhaps I should say, has anyone at the DWP yet said that they have changed that?

If SDA still does come last, has anyone any guess when that "last" might be? I presume that it is partly dependent on what proportion of those being "migrated" on to ESA are in receipt of SDA, compared with those on IB.

Does anyone have figures for that proportion?

As far as I am aware SDA claimants are still ex[ected to be at the back end of the mugration, probably 2014, however, if you are exempt from the PCA then it could actually be in the first year.

I am afraid I don't have any up to date statistics for SDA, but figures from 2003 show just over 322,000 people claiming it. This would put it at 10-15% of current IB claimants, but this is just a guestimate.

Thanks Gordon. Nothing like making it simple, is there?

(And, to pre-empt the obvious, this is nothing like making it simple.)

I think I'm exempt from the PCA - I just a form every so often saying, "Has anything changed?" I send it back saying "things are a little worse." and that's it.

Time to gird the loins approaching then.

Despite what has been said or indeed surmised, I don't think anyone can effectively determine when different categories of claimants will be migrated to ESA.

I think the reason is because the DWP have not as yet decided when these claimants will transfer to ESA. From the information available I believe that correspondence that has been released by the DWP on this subject, has at best been ambiguous.

I don't think that the precise dates of migration of the various categories of claimants to ESA will ever be released by the DWP, but I would err on the side of caution working on the assumption that as a claimant, I would be the first to migrate to ESA. By adopting this approach, to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

Perhaps there is no such process as "making their mind up" inside the DWP. Someone just sits there deciding whether to press the green button or the yellow button on a sort of "how do I feel today" principle.

Probably not even worth a FoI request - after all timing can be a commercial secret too.
