I tend to go go along with that. Its just that I am now wishing I had left well alone, as even phoning the I.B. felt rough and as if, YOU ARE NEXT! for a medical ,just because you had the temerity to phone, they fill me with dread. I have had more medicals than the guys trapped down the mine in Chile had when they got out in last 20 years.
I will probably tell my Wife to give up and say no to any claims , unless we can get a real written fact to back it up ,that it would assist us and not cause more problems in any financial way.

thanks for input though.

You could try ringing the Disability Benefits Helpline on 08457 123 456, there are other contacts on this page.

www.direct.gov.uk/en/Dl1/Directories/DG_10011169

They explained it to me when I was looking at CA for my wife, Moneywise it did not work for me as I am trying to claim ESA and therefore would not have got any more money.

There can be a knock on effect to the person being cared for when someone receives CA, there is a brief explanation on the following site.

www.direct.gov.uk/en/CaringForSomeone/Mo...llowance/DG_10012529

Hope this helps

Stephen

hi i was in the same postion about a year ago, we ended up about £10 a week better off, they took 10.oo less of of me than they give to my wife, also if she is in recepit of ca she can arguge that she can not go out and get a job herself as is your full time carear.

Does your wife receive any social security benefits, if so then she may be falling into the trap of 'overlapping benefits'.

For example, if your wife was in receipt of IB/ESA, she couldn't be paid Carers Allowance as well, as they're Overlapping Benefits

I'm currently desperately trying find a more detailed answer to this Jim. The benefits helpline also appear to be a bit stuck.

What if the carer has a current IB50 award, BUT only for NI credits.

If they are married to the person who requires care and both are part of a joint IS claim ( with the disability premium ), how will the DM view this.
