DLA medical question

DLA medical question was created by judgejudith
My daughter had a DLA medical at our home yesterday. The dr did an interview before the physical examination and wrote a summary of what my daughter said. But she didn't read back any of the statement or offer my daughter the chance to read it, & my daughter wasn't asked to sign it, unlike what used to happen at DLA medicals that my daughter had in the past.

I rang ATOS today and was told that this was how they did things now and had been for several years. I also spoke to a man at DIAL UK (Disabilty advice & info charity) who also said that this was the way Medical Services did things now.

However, The National Autistic Society, The Association of Youth With M.E. and other organisations have written on their websites that the statement summary should be read out to the person or given to them to read and you should only then sign it if you're happy with what you see or hear.
The pages were updated in August this year so should be accurate.

Also from browsing forums & blogs I can see that other claimants at medicals in the last few months (in various areas) have been asked to sign the statement at the end. (Although they weren't always allowed to read or hear the statement so were worried about signing it.)
So it would appear that this isn't 'the way they do things now', or if it is then not all of their dr's are aware of it/ putting into practice.

Can anyone clarify this issue for us please?

Hi,

Having just been speaking with a colleague well versed in these matters, there is nowadays no need for the DLA medical report form to be signed by the claimant (as was the case).

However, there is still a number of the old Medical Report Forms still in circulation which do have the box for the claimant to sign. I presume some EMP's are being quite spendthrift and are using up the old forms before using the new ones. I suppose occaisonally they do forget the new procedure and ask the claimant to sign it.

Hi NoJustice,

I'm very surprised that anyone is still using old DLA medical report forms that need signing by the claimant. The requirement for claimants to sign medical report forms went out literally years ago.
