Hello

In Sept 2009 my mum was awared DLA LRC and on Sept 1st 2010 she won her appeal to be awared MRC indefinitely. Does the new rate start from Sept this year or is it backdated to last Sept?

Also, is there help for someone on DLA to get a special bed, such as a grant or low interest loan?

Thank you

Hi,

It will say on the Appeal Decision Notice the start date of the award.

Re the bed, there is nothing specific to DLA as it is not a means tested benefit.
It could be viewed that buying things such as a disability related special bed is what DLA Care is actually paid for.

Unless the person is receiving Income Support/Pension Credit then that rules out some government assistance.

If a particular type of bed is required due to the disability Social Services may help.

Hi there,
there is a Disability Facilities Grant available through adult social services and local councils for home improvements ( stair lift walk in shower, rails etc)to make things easier for people with disabilities to remain in their own home. These are to an extent means tested and dependant upon benefits received. I am unsure if a special bed will fall into this category but it may be worth a try.( one could argue that it's an necessary appliance in order to aid a disability).
Good luck nothing ventured nothing gained.
