I can't remember, are these free if you are in the waiting phase of ESA? and once you *hopefully* get the ESA is it free then? Thank you.

You get them free if you are on income-based ESA. If you are on contributions-based ESA, you can apply for a form called an HC2 entitling you to them on the basis of low income. Ask your chemist or GP.

It depends on whether it's contributions-based or income-based. Both are paid at the same rate. You will need to look at the correspondance you had from the DWP to find out which you are on.

Hi Judy

I applied for a HC2 certificate whilst i was waiting for my ESA to go through as it is classed as low income. I was awarded this for a year, in the meantime my ESA was sorted and because i was awarded ESA contribution and income based i was entitled to it anyway. The only problem is that you have to carry a copy of your award letter with you to show should you eed any treatment.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Mm :)
