Does new government mean changes to DLA

Hi,
Will the new Government changes, affect everyone claiming DLA? Will we have our awards taken away and have to make fresh claims or will the changes only affect new claims? I am very worried as there is no way I can ever go back to work.I have Angina, Severe Asthma, possible MS and Depression.I will not be able to cope without my DLA just like everyone else here.
Thanks Amber

Hi Amber,

There are no plans to change DLA at the moment. All we know is that Iain Duncan Smith would like to scrap all the current benefits and start again.

But even if this were to happen it would take many years, so there's absolutely no need to worry for the present.

Was I imagining it, or did both main parties say that DLA was 'safe for the duration of this Parliament'? There was also something Jim said that David Cameron had told him personally when he'd spoken to him on the phone following the death of Ivan.

Either that or, I've really been over-doing the painkillers.
Cheers, Pen.

It is correct that Jim received a reply from David Cameron about the status of DLA, including the fact it would not be abolished.

Jim is away on a short break at the present time, but he may confirm this information on his return if he sees this post.
