ESA to UC migration urgent! was created by andytwonames
My daughter is learnng disabled and I've just unearthed the letters demanding that she apply for UC Must be done by 11th March.
My job is very demanding and I have limited time to help her.
I have just created an online account for myself to help with her claim.
Her passport has just recently expired and her provisional driving license is long out of date.
My urgent questions are:
1. Can we ask for extra time via the online account?
2. I do not charge her rent for living with me. If we say that I charge no rent, will that reduce the benefit payment she gets?
3. assuming the answer to 2 is yes. Shall we say that I do charge her rent? Will they want proof?
4. the passport expired 12th Feb. Is it still useful as an ID document in this case?

Hi andytwonames
To answer your questions-
1. No to get an extension you need to phone the Migration helpline and give a valid reason.
2. It makes no difference at all as for Benefits purposes a parent cannot charge their son or daughter rent which would be counted as a Housing Cost.
4 An expired passport is valid ID for the DWP but not for UC online verification.
I would advise you use the CItizens Advice Help to Claim service and their phone number is on page 2 of your Migration letter. Here is a recommendation from our Forum member VIA-

Thank you for the quick response. I posted the questions and then couldn't find it. Assumed I'd messed up and posted again. Look out for the duplicate.
