My first PIP phone assessment was booked for January. On the day of the assessment, scheduled for 9 a.m., the assessor called me 30 minutes before the appointment and asked if we could start right away. I had just woken up, so I requested 15 minutes to wake up. Around 9:15 a.m., an office worker called to tell me that the assessment needed to be postponed because the assessor had become unavailable. They then rescheduled the assessment for February 6th.

The assessment lasted over 2 hours and worsened my mental health. I became even more anxious and depressed than before. About 30 minutes ago (5 days later), I received another call from the assessment office. The person informed me that I had an assessment with their colleague, but they needed more evidence and wanted to book a second assessment within 3 hours. I told them it was impossible because my friend, who was supporting me during the first assessment, was not available at the moment. They rescheduled the second assessment for tomorrow.

Can they do this? Schedule a second assessment? I felt like I was going to have a breakdown during the first assessment. I have physical and mental health issues, including ADHD, Dyslexia, and recently, I’ve been on medication for anxiety and depression. I really don’t understand what else they could be asking me about. My friend is working tomorrow anyway so have to call them again, but to be honest I really don't want to go thrue this again. what I can do? can they do this?

Hi lala

It appears that they are being completely unreasonable. You should have been given 7 days notice. Phone them and quote the following Section 9 paragraph 3 of the PIP regulations 2013 states " written notice of the date, time and, where applicable, place for, the consultation is sent to C at least 7 days in advance".
Also having a companion is a reasonable adjustment -- this is the extract from the PIP providers handbook " 1.6.53 Claimants have a right to be accompanied to a consultation if they so wish"
Let me know how you get on.
