Contribution ESA and inheritance was created by DJMH15
Hi
I worked before being on ESA but the letters only ever said it was income ESA, so I never knew it was a mixture of contributions ESA and income.
I had an inheritance which took me just over the allowed amount and phoned DWP to close my ESA claim.
Then I got a call later on the week to say the person had made a mistake and it should not have been closed as it would change to contributions only, and disability premiums stay as I also have daily rate of pip.
Because it eas their mistake will it go back to the same because otherwise I would have to move to the new ESA and lose nearly half of my income, when I was never made aware of it being a mixture of contributions and income ESA, and the lady who closed the claim did so knowing I was doing it because thought I had to?
Confusing.
It is also thedifference between having my own over 55 flat and renting ongoing.
Thankyou

Hi DJMH15,

Do you currently have savings over the £16k threshold?
You cannot receive premiums on Contributions based ESA. So all the time you were getting a premium you must have been assessed and awarded Income Based ESA.

Hi
They said it was a mix of both in the last phone call?
So I had contribtion, which I didn’t know, and an income related top up.
So now I have just over the allowed savings because of inheritance and I thought I had to lose the claim because it was all income based. So I phoned and closed claim and they called after two days to say they had made a mistake and I can keep the. Contribution part but not income part. Will I need to do a new form? Very worried now. Thanks. I was in support group and also daily living pip.

Hi DJMH15,

You will still be in the Support Group and have a Conts only ESA claim.
You should get a letter of confirmation from ESA.
