UC new application made by power of attorney question

I have a friend that has recently being diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia. I have recently been registered as her POA and I have successfully completed a PIP form which resulted in high care and mobility indefinitely. She is still employed at the moment but is suspended from work due to ‘asking strange questions’ and has been on suspension since 24th May 2024. I doubt if she will ever go back to work as her symptoms have increased dramatically after being taken from her normal routine (by her employer!) It does appear that her employer is going to refuse any reasonable adjustments for her to return to work. (Claiming they are all ‘unreasonable’ for them!) Has anyone had experience of applying for UC as a power of attorney? My friend’s speach is impaired and she cannot find suitable words to answer, sometimes simple questions. She would not deal with a phone interview at all and would struggle with face to face. Luckily PIP did not ask for a face to face and were happy to speak to me as an appointee and POA. Will this be the same for UC? Thank you

Hi Tragobon,

You can take the power of attorney deed to any Jobcentre and they will photocopy it and stamp it as a certified true copy and then send the copy via internal mail to the UC department. You will then have authority to administer your friend's Benefits and you will receive all DWP Benefits payments on behalf of your friend.
