UC confusion regarding ESA was created by EC
Could someone advise me. I am official appointee for my son who has bipolar affective disorder . Due to a change in his circumstance and being offered social housing he had to claim UC as before he was claiming ESA. So in 2018 i supported him with putting in a claim. He had a medical assessment and was placed in the Limited capability for work and work-related activity. However everything 2 weeks he still receives money from ESA which UC are aware of as it states in his journal. I’m totally confused as to what to do as from what I am reading the ESA money will be stopping so does that mean UC will increase what they pay him and no doubt he will be assessed again. Do I need to add anything to my son’s journal?
Sorry if my question sounds confusing.

Hi EC,

Because your son receives both ESA and UC it shows that his ESA must be contribution based ESA and the contribution based ESA carries on unaffected by the current Managed Migration process. Sometimes the contribution based ESA is called New Style ESA but the same applies.

Hope this helps,
David

Thank you so much David.
Because I was unsure about what ESA he was on Iv left a message on his UC journal asking for clarification and I’m hoping I don’t receive conflicting answers.
I’m pretty sure it’s ESA contribution based. Here’s hoping that that nothing changes but I have doubts .
