UC review. was created by Jayne
I have today received a scheduled call from UC which lasted 4 minutes. They were informing me that they wanted to check I was getting the correct amount of UC and on that basis they need a copy of my ID and four months bank statements from all accounts I hold. Is this normal. Having had a malicious investigation against me thrown out in the past resulting in me making a complaint to the minister for the DWP and getting an apology and a small amount of compensation. My query is.. is this normal procedure to review UC amounts paid and if so does that always involved a sweep of one’s bank accounts? I have all paperwork ready to send when I receive the written request but I very suspicious of the process. Surely to carry out a clarification of benefit review they just have to look at my account and add the benefits up to ensure I am being paid enough or too much? I would appreciate advice as I do feel that yet another complaint might be a possibility if they are not following procedures. Thank you. Jayne.

Replied by David on topic UC review.
Hi Jayne,

I have heard that this has been happening to a lot of claimants. I think the DWP is double checking everything at the moment. This maybe because they allowed so many claims without checking during Covid.
There is now an Enhanced Review Team ( Risk Review Team ) which checks UC claims and according to some reports suspicious claims are flagged up by AI.
So a UC review is less likely these days to be malicious and more likely to be computer generated.
Banks and other financial insitutions supply the DWP via HMRC a list of names of account holders but not the balances or transaction details. That is why the DWP need to see a bank statement to check the balance.

Hope this helps,
David
