Advice on selecting a solicitor please

I hope it's okay to ask this question in the forum.

My friend (77 yrs old, receives state pension plus a small private pension, no benefits, and is in good health), owns a 50/50 share of his home with his son, who lives with him.
His son is concerned about his position (would there be a forced sale of their home?), should his father ever need to go into care.
There is a will leaving full ownership of the house to the son upon the passing of the father.

They want to seek the advice of a solicitor, but are unsure as to what legal speciality this falls under. Would it be Family law?
Could anyone advise on who they should speak to please?

Hi ves, it's worth signing up for free newsletter emails from 'care to be different' It's a front organisation for a firm of solicitors specialising in contesting whether care is 'social' which is means tested and chargeable to the user/their estate, or whether it is 'nursing' and payable by the NHS even if given at home. There's a lot of good free info there month by month and you can look at old issues.

And I think there's info on .gov.uk about the issue of a family member remaining resident in a property. I think that is theoretically safe but the issue could arise if the son ever wanted to move for any reason at all following his father's death. So they should still get legal advice but I hope those two avenues allow them to get clued up first.

Also the Solicitors website has a find-a-solicitor function, with different areas of law covered. As many will offer an initial meeting free, they should be able to get on the right track without cost first.
