I've just spoken to a case worker on the PIP line. She has promised to hold off the decision maker for 2 weeks whilst I send in what she called "further information" but what I told her would be a challenging of the report.
She also confirmed when the assessor referred back to a previous assessment she skipped the paper review in between where I'd gone up to enhanced on both.
She did her absolute best to convince me to wait for mandatory reconsideration though.

I'm going to have to get something from my gp. I've printed off the gp form in the guides. I'm a little shy of asking them to do that because I don't think they understand how my day to day really is.

Oh sorry I wanted to ask too, I was given a video assessment appointment which was perfect because I can't get out easily and also because I wanted the assessor to see the difficulties I have in my home as a result of years of mental illness and refusing to let the council in to repair anything. But it became a phone appointment with no notice.
Do I have a right to say that was inappropriate?
Also I told the assessor my friend/carer was going to be linked into the video appointment but she had a last minute emergency.
Should I have been offered a chance to reschedule? She's not an appointee, just a close friend who knows how my condition affects me.

Hi Yorkiegal173

You can tell them you were disappointed that it was a telephone call instead of a video assessment, but it's not likely to make any difference. I understand that you may have wanted the PIP assessor to see how you're living, but the focus is on the specific PIP criteria, and they probably wouldn't care whether you have had repairs in your home or not. When they used to do home assessments - they didn't look around people's houses - they'd go to the one space they'd been invited to, do the assessment and leave. A video call would have allowed the assessor to see you - not anything else. You can tell them whatever you want, but focus on the issues that will score you points. I understand it wasn't what you wanted, but the most important thing is to fight to see if you can get your enhanced award again, which means pointing them to the evidence of the paper-based review and linking that to your ongoing difficulties.

It would have been nice if the assessor had asked you if you wanted to proceed, but they didn't have to offer you the chance to reschedule. You could have asked them to reschedule, but you would have been forced to accept the next appointment they offered you regardless of whether it was convenient.

Only get a letter from the doctor if you think it will be helpful. I agree that most can't comment on the specifics of the PIP criteria. What they can do is comment (if they are willing) that you remain under their care, your diagnosis and any medication.

Get that letter in as soon as you can.
