" I do know that the legacy benefits are being moved over to UC soon"

from Chris's reply to another post.
Please, does this mean my relative who has been on CB ESA for years, also PIP Enhanced x 2, will have to be means tested, reassessed and/ or what? Panic is setting in as they will not cope with this, and helping will be a terrible stretch for me now. Any timescale?
Thanks, Denby

Hi denby

keep an eye out for the news letter from B&W.

What is happening at this moment in time single tax credit claimants are being asked to apply for UC, they are not being moved over.

The claimant will receive a letter from DWP inviting them to apply for UC, if they do not apply within 3 months then their legacy benefits will cease.

Thank you Gary. Scary though, presumably forced move may be in the pipeline eventually even for married claimants not on tax credits.

Don't know what's worse, gov't basically washing its hands of doing anything practical about climate change, or this. People on benefits will suffer worse than the wealthy from not only extra cold winters but over-hot spells [you bet Downing St has aircon] and from ever rising food prices all due to climate chaos.

Hi Gary,

I honestly read that the government are doing away with legacy benefits and moving people to UC (it mentioned 6 different types of benefits I believe) - Is this not correct ? I get various emails from different companies about what's happening with benefits etc.

Honestly, you never know what's true and what's not these days - It makes it so difficult to answer some posts if what I'm reading is incorrect.

Regards, Chris.

Hi Chris

There are 6 different types of legacy benefits that will go and will be replaced by UC.

Universal Credit is replacing the following benefits and tax credits:

~ Child Tax Credit
~ Housing Benefit
~ Income Support
~ income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
~ income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
~ Working Tax Credit

Digital UC has been live for a number of years, what is happening now is claimants in receipt of legacy benefits will be asked to apply for UC, if they do not apply within 3 months then their legacy benefit will cease.

DWP are starting the roll out to claimants claiming Tax credits, a number of areas across the UK have already gone live.

Hi Gary,

Ahhhh - I get you - so I've basically misunderstood what I'd read, and wrote (this topic title). I never realised that people had to re-apply. That is shocking! Another way of hoping people won't know what to do, to save more money. This government! :(

Thank you for clearing it up - much appreciated.

Kind regards, Chris.
