Diabetic DLA was created by Mel B
Hi everybody
Have some good news !! Bit of a story so get comfortable....
My wife had submitted a DLA claim back in May 13 as she has complictions with her diabetic condition which she has had for 37 years.
She put in the claim for DAY care and NIGHT care as she has unawareness of going into a diabetic hypo and has relied on me to administer glugose by mouth to bring her back for all these years but sometimes I fail and I have to call out the paramedics to line her and inject the liquid to save her life.
The dept refused her medical records at the start ( dont need them thank you ) and we waited, and waited nothing !! So phoned to chase them up after an email to them had no joy.
They had not checked their emails but the phone call worked and we had a result of middle rate day care but no night !!
She asked for a reconsidertion this time insisted on her medical records being taken she also provided from the ambulance service all the records of the call outs including nights.
Their medical assesor wrote in his report she is quite ill and needs care day and night and so did her doctor.
It is a know fact that diabetics have more hypo's at night as blood sugers drop!!
The dept seemed to ignore all of this word NIGHT by these three proffesionals.
Fortuniatly my wife had a appointment with her specilist and we got a copy of his report from his secretary which said she has unawarness and needs care at all times especially at ( wait for it )
NIGHT !! We took this by hand to the dept and they said, Oh that will help .
NO! it didnt they wanted another form that they made up and sent it to the specilist who saw my wife to confirm what , I do not know !!
The specilist was a locum who has only seen her twice in 4 years and he refused to fill it in as he went back to the UK . So it was left in the in tray for my wifes allocated specilist who had only seen her once in four years.
Finally after 3 months he filled it in and we got a copy and guess what it said.... YES THE SAME AS ALL THE OTHERS.....! spookie eh.
Today we got that brown envolope and at last they have ran out of resons and delaying tactics and awarded my wife middle rate day and night so we are over the moon plus all the back monies.
I firmly believe the site is worth its weight in gold as are the moderators who give up their time to help us. Without all the info to download and advice read from other claimants some would give up long before now. Keep going fight with all you have dont take NO for an answer until you run into a dead end. FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT.
I am still fighting my application tooth and nail with all the help from the mods and I have now a repto help me at the appeal. Thank you Mods top people well done and keep it up ..
Many thanks xx

Sounds good so congratulations. I am a bit confused though by you saying middle rate day and night but I guess you mean high rate care component?

- As middle rate care if for care day or night and high rate care recognises care needs day and night.
