JSA - is this a decision? was created by jennycollins10
Hi

I am trying to help my daughter.

She made a claim for JSA & Housing Benefit at the end of her University Course at the beginning of June. She applied on line. She was contacted by telephone by the job centre and had an appointment on the 20th June to go over the paperwork. She was told at this appointment she needed some further documents to support her claim and was given a date to next sign on of the 4th July.

On the 4th she went along and took the missing documents with her having not been told what else to do with them - but the person she saw was not intreested in receiving these, only with her actually signing on which she did.

She heard nothing further then on Friday 8th July she received her P.45 from the Job Centre with no other paperwork or explanation - this was dated the 7th July.

She has been into the Job Centre to query what is happening and has been told her claim has been cancelled as 'she failed to supply information in time'. She was given a phone number to ring to query why this has happened.

She rang the number only to be told that as far as they are concerned her claim hasn't been cancelled but is pending, meanwhile they have made an appointment for her to do a 'rapid resign' on Wednesday 13th so her claim can be started up again.

She has had no letters or written decisions.

Does she need to ask for them to look again at the decision - if so where should she write to? - she hasn't been told which JSA Benefits Centre is dealing with her claim.

If she does a rapid resign will this prejudice her claim in any way?

All help an dadvice gratfeully received.

Hi Jennywren

I'm afraid JSA is not a benefit that we cover. You need to seek face-to-face advise. See the following links.

Why can’t you answer a question about my specific claim?

How can I get individual help with a specific benefits problem?

I will just say that DWP decisions on JSA claims must be put in writing to be valid and are appealable but I recommend seeking advise on how to proceed.

Good luck with your daughter's claim.

Derek
