dla for pension aged people was created by marie-ann13
Does anyone know the plans for DLA recipients who are already in receipt of retirement pension. I get lower rate care and higher rate mobility.
I will be 61 this year.

In a word 'no', and what is more astonishing is that the government don't know either!

Hi Marie-Ann,

I can back up what Crazydiamond has posted. I am 70 years of age and have been on the highest rates of DLA for care and mobility since it was first introduced in 1992 due chronic progressive MS and several other medical conditions.

Previously, from the mid 1980's, I was on Mobility Allowance and Attendance Allowance (AA) for life, which were the benefits for those with mobility and/or care needs.

From what I've researched, there appears to be no transitional protection for those currently on DLA of pension age when DLA changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in or about 2013/ 2014. It appears that anyone over pension age will not be able to claim anything for mobility, and if receiving DLA care component will need to claim AA.

However, my MP is very concerned about this and is currently in communication with
IDS, Sec of State for Work & Pensions for a definitive answer.

Once I receive his reply, it will be posted in Benefits News, or possibly in this forum.

Hope this is of help.

Best wishes,

Jim

thanks for replying.
I am really worried about losing my dla as without my mobility car I would be housebound due to my disability.I cannot afford to buy and run a car on my pension and taxis are out of the question.

Yes, I've had a motability car since 1986, so that's the main reason I've asked my MP to investigate as this issue affects thousands of DLA claimants currently of state pension age or older.
