Informing DLA of a change was created by pompeyfaith
Greetings all,

I am getting DLA MRC due to the help needed because of a stroke.

Now I have changed my GP because I was not happy with the service he was giving for which I have proof and a complaint to him and the regulator may follow.

Anyway my new GP is great and is in full support of my claim unlike the last GP.

Now this new GP had noticed I had been taking tabs for a prostate problem I have had for 2 yrs with no luts test or anything and was not happy with that.

He has now done those tests and has refereed me to hospital to have ultrasound and and a camera test due to white blood cells in urine.

I have this hospital appointment on 15th July how ever this problem is now a pain due to sleep deprivation having to get up at least 5 times a night to use the toilet and to be honest I am totally worn out.

My GP has also put me on stronger pain killers due to fatigue and painful hypoextension of my knee.

Now I guess I need to inform the DLA of my change of doctor and the medical changes so as I have a live claim how do I do this.

Is a letter good enough and the DLA will contact my new GP for evidence?

Regards

Do you intend to claim the highest rate of the care component for night needs? If so, you can draft a letter to the DLA Unit at Blackpool explaining your change of circumstances together with the name of your new GP. In return you will be sent a claim form which is usually a DLA434 or DLA580. Following receipt of the claim, the DLA decision maker will decide if any (further) evidence is required from your GP?

Please be aware however that with regard to your current award of DLA, there is always a risk that your award could be reduced or stopped altogether, rather than increased. It is rare for people's awards to be reduced or lost in this way, but it does happen. So, as you already have an existing award, it is always very valuable to get an opinion from a welfare rights worker if you possibly can, before going ahead with a claim for an increase in your DLA entitlement.

Crazydiamond,

Thank you for the reply, well given the extra care my wife now gives at night I think I should be entitled to the HRC although I do appreciate what you are saying and that it does not always go the way you hope.

Unfortunately we do not have WRO in south hants although my new GP has said he will write to the DLA for me in support as he thinks that the rate I am getting was never right in the first place.

I will have a search and she who else can help in my area.

Thank you again
