Voluntary work and filling in ESA50 was created by asdman
I've been gettign contributroy IB for about 10 years. About 3 years ago I asked my CBT therapist (on NHS) if doing some voluntary work might help and she thought it would be a good idea to try. I got it agreed by the DWP. I tried volunteering for a local charity but could only manage one session per week of about two hours. Following each seesion I would have a bad reaction and had to spend the next couple of days in bed. I kept going in intemittently but finally stopped just over a year ago as by then it was clear I couldn't cope with it.

What's the best way to deal with this on the ESA50? I think I should say something about it as the DWP are already aware that I've been volunteering. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I'm no longer seeing the CBT therpaist as I've had my ration.

Would it really be relevant as you are no longer doing the voluntary work? I just doubt it but correct me somebody if I am wrong.
If you are that concerned you should very clearly mention that although you DID do the work, you found it worsened your condition. I know what you mean about mentioning things as you do not wish to break any rules but for heavens sake we have been made to feel like this and we should be concentrating on more important things, like how are we going to get through the next few days!!!!!!
But I know how it gets to one, I recently informed the DWP of something and they removed my DLA component even though it had only just been granted but I thought they might. I tend to worry about doing the right thing with official stuff.
Maybe get some advice from a disability rights centre or somebody who is familiar with them.

Good luck

Hi asdman

I agree with Callisto that the voluntary work that you did is irrelevant as it is now over a year ago.

It's not necessary to mention it but if you feel that your condition has not improved and you would still not be able to do it, you can if you wish briefly mention that you have tried voluntary work in the past and it made your condition worse, and the situation hasn't changed.

Good luck

Derek
