DLA

I applied for DLA in February after a diagnosis of IBS, asthma, sleep apneo, fibromyalgia (very painful and limiting mobility), Chronic fatigue and after two recent falls I was issued a walking stick. I have since been diagnosed with colitis and breast cancer and am due to have a double mastectomy next week. I informed W&P by telephone (twice) of my new diagnosis and was told they would now hurry things along. They did acknowledge my claim two weeks ago with a letter saying that they may contact my GP or someone else who can tell them how my dissability affects me, arrange for a doctor to examine me, write for more information or arrange for someone from Social Security to come and visit me. Is this good or bad news and how much longer is this going to take??
PS: My GP is aware of how all this is affecting my life at present.

Technically it can be wiewed as a positive sign (as much as one can) as they have not dismissed your claim outright just based on your application form but are making further enquiries with your medical team.

As to how long that takes, that is more difficult as there are a number of reasons things can take a while. Hospital consultants and doctors can sometimes take a while to write/return reports etc. The workload on the DBC dealing with your claim can also have a bearing.

Really all you can really do it wait.

Had another letter two weeks ago now stating that they are contacting my consultant for a report, I called them and told them of two new diagnosis (breast cancer and double mastectomy, now post op) and they said they would try and hurry things along, yet still not heard anything??? This has been on-going since February.....

What about contacting your consultant's secretary to see if you can hurry up the report? And maybe you could contact your GP. Some GPs are prepared to provide a report/letter to their patient to use, although many make a charge for this.

I have already contacted the secretaries of all my consultants with the new diagnosis. I did receive yet another letter on Saturday saying they are sorry for the delay in not giving a decision yet, but are dealing with it as quickly as possible and I will not lose money?? They intend to write to me again as soon as they can with more information...........and on it goes.
