SAVING FOR A CAR was created by sorrysight
Hi, Because benefits such as Housing Benefit are means tested, and I receive HB along with non means tested HRC HRM DLA can I not save for a car out of my DLA to the sum of say £7000. I think that £6000 takes me over the limit for HB and Guaranteed Pension Credit that I also receive.....Thanks in advance

Hi Sorrysight

If you save £7000 you would have to inform Housing Benefit when your savings reach £6000. That won't stop your housing benefit altogether. You just have £1 of HB deducted for every £250 you have above £6000.

It's probably best to seek advice though, as there could be changes in the future.
