Tribunal Judges was created by Bill
Hello,
I wonder can anyone tell me if a District Judge, who was Chair of a First Tier Tribunal, is more senior than a Judge that is not a District Judge?
Seems a strange question maybe but it is in relation to something that was written in my Statement of Reasons.
If anyone knows I would be most grateful.
Thanks:)
Bill

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

A District Tribunal Judge is more 'senior' than a First-tier Tribunal Judge and is employed on a full-time basis, whereas FTT Judges are more likely to be employed on a part-time basis.
I should point out however that because DTJs are more senior, that does not necessarily make them any more infallible when it comes to making a decision on an appeal.

Thank you Crazydiamond I appreciate your reply. I had suspected they were more senior simply because when I asked for permission to appeal to the Upper Tribunal she refused saying:
'I must point out that this case was set down for a half day hearing and was presided over by a District Judge'
By saying that I suspect she was trying to tell the Upper Tribunal Judge that she did not expect him to overtrun her refusal because of her seniority.
Now, I am told that the Upper Tribunal Judge has been unable to decide and has asked the Registrar's Department for more information, I suspect that is on a matter of procedure?
Thanks again Crazydiamond.
Cheers
