Extra ESA money was created by carmind
One of our clients has just re-applied for ESA having been judged as fit for work at a recent tribunal.
He has not yet filled in the ESA 50 or had a WCA as part of this claim However, he has been given an award of £132.75 per week, which includes "extra money because you are severely disabled" and "Disability Income Guarantee".

Good news but I have not encountered these extra payments before. Any comments?

"extra money because you are severely disabled" sounds like the language used on my award letter to describe my £53.65 payment of the Severe Disability Premium.

ESA Basic Allowance £65.45
Work Related Activity Component £25.95
Severe Disability Premium £53.65

Total £145.05

According to my calculations this would be the applicable amount for a single claimant of ESA, classed as living alone in the assessment phase, and who receives the highest rate care component of DLA.

The amount comprises the basic personal allowance, the severe disability premium and the enhanced disability premium, but does not include the work-related activity component or the support component payable following a successful WCA.

From the above calculations your client would appear to still be in the assessment phase of ESA, pending the application of the work capability assessment.

You can get enhanced disability premium if you are on the highest rate of DLA care component; and you can also get a severe disability premium if you are on the middle or high rate of DLA care component and there is no-one 18 or over living as part of your household, other than someone also on DLA and no-one is claiming carer's allowance for looking after you.
